danish designer ole jensen created an armchair and shelf for normann copnehagen’s new danish modern collection. ‘memory’ is an unusual armchair that was designed not for function or style, but memory. ole jensen explains ‘we all have special objects that refresh memories – things that have a meaning and create the pleasure of recognition’. the design is an archetypal armchair upholstered with a patchwork that consists of 120 pieces individually sewn together. the chair’s frame is made from wood and is covered almost entirely with layers of foam. the familiar design gives the feeling of immediate comfort, adding another layer to the design. jensen also designed the ‘collect’ shelf, which employs similar sentimental ideas. the shelf is intended to house keepsakes and collectibles.
