the beidou culture & creativity award forms part of the second ordos international conference for culture & creativity (OICC), held in the chinese city of ordos from september 22 – 24, 2017. hosted by the government of ordos city, in collaboration with china internet news center, the event comprises three distinct elements: the ordos summit, the beidou culture & creativity award and culture & creativity exhibition, and various themed events.

the beidou culture & creativity ‘masters awards’ are separated into five categories: 

• commerce: business design, new product development, packaging design, product design, and service design

• applications: experience design, game design, interaction design, software design, software development, software engineering, system design, user experience design, user interface design, web accessibility, web design

• communications: book design, color design, communication design, exhibition design, graphic design, information design, instructional design, production design, sound design, theatrical design, typeface design, typography, motion graphic design, news design, visual communication, content design

• scientific and mathematical: combinatorial design, design of experiments

• physical: architectural design, architectural engineering, automotive design, cellular manufacturing, ceramic and glass design, environmental design, fashion design, floral design, furniture design, garden design, geometric design, industrial design, interior design/redesign, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering, sustainable design, urban design

 

10 trophies will be presented to the ‘master awards’ winners (two trophies in each category), with a prize of 200,000 RMB (approximately 30,000 USD) granted to each winning design. 5 trophies will be given for the ‘new stars awards’ (one trophy for each category), with a prize of 100,000 RMB (approximately 15,000 USD) for winning designs in the categories of: best design for aesthetic value; best design for innovative value; best design for investment value; best design for humanitarian value; and best design for application potential. meanwhile, the government of ordos has also gathered 300 million RMB (more than 45 million USD) to set up an IP foundation — every creative design will have a chance to be chosen and be financially supported.

 

the committee has invited seven famous experts to carry out the judging for the designs: wang qiguo, professor at the institute of cultural industry of peking university; lu xiaobo, dean of academy of arts and design of tsinghua university; song xiewei, dean of school of design of china central academy of fine arts; guo yu, chairman of jiae; wu jian, general manager of innovation design center of haier; yang mingjie, the internationally renowned designer; and tai noriko, japanese senior designer and art instructor.
