celebrating the choreography between the earth, moon and sun, the ‘orrery’ lamp by designer bobby genalo acts as a minimal and dimmable solar system. the warm light is an adjustable and abstract representation of our world and its moon when orbiting our star. it features a companioning website, where users can match the floor or table lamp to the real time positions of these three objects in space. the result is a playful yet very elegant design that encourages fascination with our universe, as well as further galaxies.

designed and manufactured in los angeles, california, the ‘orrery’ lamp sources its name from the mechanical models of our solar system, ‘orreries’, which were popular in 18th and 19th century as astronomers illustrated the positions of planets. created in collaboration between bobby genalo, glass blower nate cotterman, and artist and engineer eddy sykes, the lighting design rotates two walnut spheres around a custom, hand-blown glass diffuser that rests upon a machined brass structure. the ‘orrery’ lamp is currently seeking funding via its kickstarter page.
