otavio santiago designs a retrofuturistic, space-themed pet calendar for 2020

based on a vintage risograph style present in the ’60s printing process, brazilian graphic designer otavio santiago designed a nostalgic, retrofuturistic calendar. inspired to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the apollo 11 moon landing and the following cold war space explorations, in 2020 the designer guides the journey through pet astronauts.

santiago introduces a black cat, clarinha, a russian blue cat, tubarao, and keta, a shiba inu dog that go on a romp in outer space, representing each of their countries. the use of different typefaces for the inspirational astronomical quotes and duotone colors in unusual combinations brings a modern contrast to the work.

through a minimal and colorful aesthetic, each month features a different animal and composition. the bold hues and funky fonts prevail throughout the design, keeping the calendar’s look cohesive. the calendar comes in a limited edition of 100 copies.
