paola navone’s blue chandelier for barovier & toso

in her latest exhibition titled ‘BLU’ at the temporary museum for new design for milan design week 2010, paola navone interpreted the barovier & toso glass with a scenographic installation in a large dark space lit by elaborate creations of custom  built lamps. all designs were colored in blue tones varying from blue, dutch blue, cobalt blue to aquamarine.

helping to guide visitors through the dark space were a sea of floating, luminescent creatures reminiscent of jellyfish made from macroscopic glass threads and lit by LEDs . meanwhile the walls, scenery and flooring were created using poor materials from murano, including coarse wood and rusty iron. interspersed between the scenery were copies of the small bedside lamp designed in 1927 by ercole barovier for his son angelo, of which just one copy was produced at the time. it has been created in a special limited series in klein blue for milan design week 2010.
