Luxury flights with Lufthansa savor a tech-infused, flexible, and spacious Allegris Business Class, steeped in Pearson Lloyd’s seven new designs catered to diverse passengers’ needs. The airplane cabin across the long-haul fleet marks several firsts for Lufthansa’s Business Class. The chest-high sliding walls of Allegris offer reversible privacy that passengers may glide if they want to connect the two suites.

Travelers in the first rows lap up their extended personal space equipped with up to 27-inch monitors and loads of storage. Individual closets and minibars find themselves in each walled-in suite, and Pearson Lloyd insists on providing comfort and privacy through the evident extra legroom and high-seat walls. Inside, the reclinable seats can transform into a single bed at least two meters long if the travelers are done for the day.

Accompanying their long flight include high-definition 4K screens that stream their in-flight entertainment, generous-sized dining tables that double as a workspace, and other tech amenities such as wireless charging, noise-canceling headphones, and Bluetooth connectivity. A tablet anchored inside the cabin displays access to seating, lighting, and entertainment functions, doubling as travelers’ personal control over the heating and cooling system.

Several in-flight cabin designs to choose from

With Allegris Business Class, Pearson Lloyd and Lufthansa gift passengers seven options of in-flight comfort to choose from. Before stepping inside their private spaces, travelers are immediately afforded a glimpse of the maze-like path that snakes through the entire space. Blocks of walls create a playful picture, a spacious playground for hide and seek. They may settle in on their private suite with an extra-long bed measuring 2.2 meters, a dedicated work area, a seat with a baby bassinet, one where the pillowy seat sits directly by the window, or a double seat where the center console can be retracted to turn it into a reclining surface for the two passengers.

Pearson Lloyd co-founder Luke Pearson says that the design team’s perspective goes out for the consumer. ‘This concept moves away from a strictly modular single element repeated across the cabin and responds more to the individual and varied needs we see in passengers flying day to day,’ he says. ‘It allows a passenger to fly while working, private and isolated, or to relax and talk to a colleague in a different seat configuration. It delivers choice beyond simply opting to use a feature or not. The cabin thus becomes a dynamic space created by the layout, not just a space filled by repeating rows of seats.’

Reimagining and retaining Lufthansa’s identity

For Lufthansa’s Allegris Business Class, Pearson Lloyd renews the established design vernacular of the airline company by coming up with color and materials that pivot back to the cabin’s architectural elements. Congruence with the cabin’s landscape springs from the dyes for the yarn sewn into the seat textiles and the customized feature lighting, all developed from scratch. Wool-mix upholstery fabrics that underwent rigorous testing for airflow and thermal comfort guarantee ease and leisure throughout the flight.

Tactile leather occupies the armrests and console tops, while soft, sound-absorbing Nomex has been chosen for the interior shells. In the fabric of the seat, deep blues that mirror Lufthansa’s brand identity complement the light grays in the seat shells and darker tones and silvers in the interior of the seat space, welcoming a sense of intimacy and separation from the cabin’s common spaces.

As Pearson Lloyd Director Tom Lloyd says, the palette draws from Lufthansa’s heritage and the team’s previous collaboration with the airline on its A350 economy-class cabin and business-class seat designs. ‘It also takes the brand forward by bringing more soft materials into the seat space, offering more texture and depth. This results in a look and feel that we are more used to in our private lives, something less corporate, more distinctive and characterful,’ he adds.
