as football fans arrive at new jersey’s metlife stadium this sunday for super bowl XLVIII, they will enter through a vibrant and dynamic new gate for pepsi designed by new york-based graphic design studio pentagram. as one of the game’s major sponsors, pepsi celebrates their brand with a massive typographic installation covering the meadowlands sports complex’s façade, two graphic sculptures hanging from the entryway, and a four-storey high rendition of their trademark globe logo.

rethinking the historic tradition of the soft drink company with a contemporary aesthetic, pentagram has installed a pair of huge hanging bottles that have been created from a series of cross-section ‘slices’ of the pepsi globe. the discs comprise the distinctive shape of the brand’s recently redesigned glass, extending the identity into three dimensions. the large-scale logo that stretches across four levels of the stadium creates a real sense of arrival for visitors as the company’s emblematic red, white and blue colors become visible through the building’s outer skin of aluminum louvers. up close, a typographic pattern of sports words and chants can be viewed by visitors advancing up the escalators to the various levels.

  • I work for the company that built these. They were made and shipped from Pittsburgh, PA. The name of the company is Bunting Graphics. You can’t get a grasp for how big these are until you see them in person. They are VERY cool, though.
