pepe heykoop: skin collection

amsterdam-basd designer pepe heykoop has created ‘skin collection’, a series that uses existing furniture and scrap leather to form new compositions from unwanted items. triggered by the large amount of waste produced in the furniture industry – reaching 30% at times – the design looks to reinterpret the disregarded objects and material in a new and whimsical way. 

each object embodies a distinct uniqueness, reminiscent of cell structures and growth in nature. tactile and abstract, the fragments of leather both cover and modify the form of each piece, with a pattern that is dictated by the random dimensions of each material scrap.

‘skin collection’ was presented for the first time at popupgallery harry eigenberg, in amsterdam earlier this week and will officially launch at DMY berlin, 2011.
