philippe malouin‘s practice sees the canadian-born london-based creative appropriating typically mundane objects by adapting their function through renewed furniture applications. his ‘brick lamp’ for does just that. making a nod to the standard building block, the lighting piece employs a simple brick that is aesthetically blunt, but industrially stylish, as its foundation, in which an LED tube can be inserted at various points — offering an adjustable LED task lamp for your desk or shelf.

presented at ambiente 2015 in frankfurt, the design is part of the UMBRA shift collection — an extension of UMBRA — which focuses on contemporary influences observed in the creative community. the family of objects is an expression of utility, handicraft and functionality delivered through familiar but fresh ideas for ones home.
