‘we sometimes have a very bad opinion of the cro-magnons, of their neanderthal friends and of the flintstone family. luckily, they were far more sophisticated than we can imagine.’ philippe starck

the ‘torquemada’ collection explores the use of wood; each piece carved by hand from solid oak to form the table and seats: a chair, an armchair and a stool. starck and driade celebrates the handcrafted by using minimal decorative details with only the chair featuring two handcuffs in mirror-polished stainless steel, a detail that is structural and is ironically reminiscent of the imaginary of the distant inquisition. this abstract connection brings together the concept as well as the project and highlights where the name of the collection comes from.

‘one day, the flintstone family invited little red riding hood to dinner. while they were dining, the sever dwarfs painted the chairs in bright colors. how disgraceful! as time went by, they learnt to love them’, comments philippe starck.
