new alpine at NOMAD st moritz

french furniture brand pierre yovanovitch mobilier combines existing works with new designs for an installation at NOMAD st moritz called ‘new alpine’. on view inside chesa planta in samedan, switzerland, the exhibition showcases furniture and lighting pieces inspired by the sophisticated simplicity and iconic craftsmanship of swedish designer axel einar hjorth’s ‘sportstugemöbler’ series.

‘in many ways this show reflects the essence of my approach to design in that it focuses on the use of vernacular materials to create modern, yet light-hearted furniture and lighting pieces,’ says pierre yovanovitch. ‘the installation is a celebration of the alpine aesthetic, but the deeper inspiration comes from my longtime love for the swedish grace movement of the 1920s of which hjorth, and his sportstugemöbler aesthetic, were the cornerstone.’

PIERRE YOVANOVITCH’S MOUNTAIN RETREAT

the ‘new alpine’ installation takes visitors through three rooms that are set up like a pierre yovanovich-designed mountain home. within the alpine-inspired scenography are 23 furniture and lighting pieces, which include: the new solid oak-backed sofa and accompanying armchair, mindy sofa and eloi chair; the new hexa chair, a wood-based chair newly offered in a vintage tapestry fabric; a gouged wood floor lamp available in a newly designed flared lampshade.

all of the works on display focus on longevity and exceptional quality. yovanovich worked with specialty craftsmen to source superior materials, which are locally certified and sustainable wherever possible.

the objects are on view at NOMAD st moritz from march 1st – 6th, 2022, with pieces available for purchase via the pierre yovanovitch mobilier website or in-person at the atelier’s paris showroom.
