plastic shoes by fernando and humberto campana for melissa

the brazilian -melbourne, australia-based shoe company melissa which has been around for 25 years, invited the campana brothers to design 6 different plastic shoes. the brothers began experimenting with 3 mm diameter aluminium wire, which they then hand-wove into the shape of a shoe, made with up to  30% recycled material. all of melissa’s shoes and bags are created from mono-materials (one raw material only) so that they can be easily disassembled and recycled. solids, liquids and gases left over from the production process are all treated and dealt with in-house. part of the money raised from sales will go to the charity ‘visao mundial de recife’ located in brasil and an institution which the campana brothers engage with and participate with in developing works.
