plus minus zero: wire ware

directed by japanese designer naoto fukasawa, company ±0 (plus minus zero) has released new kitchen tools, on show at spazio rossana orlandi during milan design week 2011. their ‘wire ware’ collection is a series of tableware, made from black wire, resulting in simple objects defined by this single element. appearing as abstract linear forms, the collection includes a bread or fruit basket, egg carton and cup, as well as a toast stand.

  • Am i missing something? Surely the designer must know that “wireware” is the long-standing generic term for all this kind of wire design and that 1000s of designs like this are available in any market or hardware shop throughout asia for applications for any room in your house or garden. Why did the designer bother and also try to grab the wireware name for himself?
