hello, we thought you might be interested in a project we recently completed. the commissioned installation was unveiled at the 2006 mayor’s celebration of the arts and was situated in the west courtyard of the school of architecture. originally meant to facilitate outdoor class lectures and impromptu events, the courtyard has remained an underused and neglected space by both the students and citizens of cambridge, ontario, canada. the installation enlivened this neglected space with new life. passersby were drawn to the video projections, ambient music, custom-built lighting and seating which fostered their interaction with the space, and more importantly, with each other. aside from opening night, the park became a new venue for outdoor lunches, sunbathing, social gatherings, mountain biking and a movie night. despite the protests to permanently leave the park in the courtyard, after five days it was dismantled in an afternoon. photos courtesy of our fellow student, gabe li. here is a video link of the day of construction best regards the pocket park creators: kate bowman, lily kim, ryan ollson, court sin, somya singh, kristy wung
