hundreds of sexy porsches gathered in north hollywood for luftgekühlt 6

this year, luftgekühlt 2019 (luft 6), took place in north hollywood, where ‘back to the future’ was filmed. its one of the few thematic places in the world with enough backdrops and stages to account for the diversity of this vehicular species. here, a weathered, lavender porsche is set perfectly in front of an old western backdrop… while another, with a continuous track for back-wheels, is parked outside a dry adobe dwelling… while a much faster porsche idles in front of a lower-manhattan, financial district building… all really in the same place, luft 6, 2019, in southern california.

porsche’s compiled together always seem to transcend their environment, but here in hollywood, they are literally more real than the faux architecture around them. each polished (or intentionally unpolished) hood shines like a superstar against the flatness of drawn-on windows. but if these cars are the stars, the curators who managed to arrange them are just as special. sitting in director’s chairs — away from the limelight that the cars deserve to bask in — patrick long (racecar driver), jeff zwart (visual artist and enthusiast) and hundreds of car owners all spend thousands of hours per year, thinking about and caring for this special brand, which they bring to life each year in their labor of love, luft 6.
