sympathy for stray cats and dogs has led pote, a korean design studio, to create ‘fishbone house,’ a clean and simple dwelling for animals. the aesthetic came to mind after seeing the skeletal form of a fish in a market. along these lines, the architecture features an array of parallel contours constructed out of birch timber. on the top and bottom, a spine perpendicularly fortifies the structure using lap joints and woodworking bond, taking away the need for screws or any other type of connection. an opening on the end opposite the fin allows animals to come and go as they please. the minimal amount of material allows the house to let in cool breezes during the summer and a sufficient amount of sunlight in the winter.
