‘pressed wood black’, the new series of objects by german designer johannes hemann expands on her previous iterations, with a floor and a stained wood table light for american gallery, industry. as before, the stool and table are constructed using a pressure-press technique on fresh cut wood, which divides the fibers from the timber section. to create the forms, traditional wood-bending techniques are applied; the pieces are first steamed, then bent into moulds. as part of the experimental process, hemann twists each piece during production, resulting in an exchange of external and internal surface structures, inside and out.
