the eclectic ‘radikal klassisk’: between past and present

Eclectic, bold, and incredibly textural, ‘Radikal Klassisk’ is a new apartment design in Madrid, Spain, envisioned by Spanish studio Puntofilipino’s Gema Gutiérrez. While exquisitely modern, the living spaces also hint at historical flair through Danish design accents inspired by 19th-century painter Ebba Nina Beck Carstensen. In other words, ‘a perpetual link between past and present has been established‘, notes the designer. As one walks through the ‘Radikal Klassisk’ interiors, rich materials like wood, stone, and marble seem to unite in a timeless spectrum of earthy backdrops, with the occasional statement color to sharpen the composition.

‘an aesthetic without restrictions’

More specifically, Puntofilipino (see more here) combined Danish design classics with ‘custom’ pieces to create and forge a particular atmosphere, a timeless visual and emotional pathway. Avoiding banal or provocative shapes, the studio has shaped an identity of contrasting and substantial impact, with simple but sophisticated signs, mixing softness and rigidity, light and dark tones — evoking spaces from distant times.

A language inspired by emotional alchemies made of unexpected choices, preservation, inventions, lights, stones, and oxidation; an aesthetic without restrictions where each object has its own power and expressive ‘reason for being’. Spaces that feel as if they have always been there and embrace the idea of a style tinged with nostalgia. Unconventional interiors. There’s a twist, whether it’s bold patterns on the fabrics or a risky approach to color. A commitment to breaking elements,’ reflects Gutiérrez.
