RADICALLY PORSCHE scholarship contest

— 01 – the subject of the scholarship contest is

to radicalize the PORSCHE CAYMAN in a visually, stimulating way.

the PORSCHE CAYMAN signifies fun, agility, speed and sportsmanship, all of which are the basic foundations of each PORSCHE sports cars. the CAYMAN recalls the legendary 550 spider from 1953, housing a pure sports engine located at the centre of the vehicle to improve the distribution of weight, agility and ensure smooth handling.

PORSCHE spa italy (the italian subsidiary of the stuttgart sports car manufacturer), brings forth this bursary award to invite those who have an abundance of imagination, a passion for cars and a resourcefulness to achieve amazing and unexpected results, to participate.

we expect to receive innovative and original pattern designs for the CAYMAN model range that enhance the visual appeal of the sports vehicle. we want to be surprised by your refined ‘all-over’ designs, repeating or non repeating patterns, whose motifs will translate well into a design covering the entirety of a PORSCHE CAYMAN car.

please download these eps files and use them as the canvas for your pattern design. you are asked to work on the complete car from these four different views to illustrate the pattern development.

— 02 – awards first selection: from january 10th – 31st, 2011, designboom readers will select the top four designs from the shortlisted entries. these winners from the first selection will have their designs translated into reality. PORSCHE will realize the top four designs on four real CAYMAN model range sports cars.

second selection: PORSCHE will produce images of the four decorated CAYMAN cars and from february 20th to march 30th, 2011, designboom readers will vote to determine the overall winner among the four patterned CAYMAN cars. PORSCHE will try its best to represent each of the four designs based on the original pattern.

the designer of the highest ranking submission, who fulfills the guidelines of applying for a masters degree at the scuola politecnica di design, milan, italy, will be offered a full paid scholarship for a masters degree in visual design in collaboration with the scuola politecnica di design. the program will start on october 11th, 2011

and has a value of €12,600.00 (1 – this award only includes tuition, and excludes any other expenses 2 – this is not a monetary award. the value cannot be exchanged for money.)

— 03 – design criteria projects should not be currently in production, previously published or exhibited projects are not accepted! it is important that you keep your design(s) confidential until the results of the competition are published.

this competition is held for the production of artistic works and the author of the awarded prize is recognized only for the quality of his/her personal artistic merit. there are no commercial purposes related to this contest.

— 04 – registration deadline application registration will be accepted through january 1st, 2011.

— 05 – registration registrations are open now, please fill in the form. teams register with one name only. – when submitting works you should add all team member’s names.registrations are closed

— 06 – submit your entry / entries

if you are entering more than one work, please submit each work separatelyyou will be requested to supply:

1. up to 3 files for uploading to designboom please use the four eps files provided and upload them accordingly: 1) side view 2) top view 3) front view and rear view (together as one file) for a total of three files. to upload your images please note: use only .gif, .jpeg, (72 dpi) max 150 kb each file, RGB color mode. image size width: 800 pixels.

the entry submitted is a low-res version of your original work. these original high-resolution image(s) will be requested only if your work is shortlisted.

2. explanation of ideas a brief description of your design.(english text only, explanation is expected to be very concise)

3. you will be requested to accept the competition guidelines competition guidelines: projects participating to the competition, must be original works. projects must be free from copyrights and any kind of obligation. the design shall not in any way infringe any third party’s right, including but not limited to copyright, logos, trademark, trade names, or other proprietary rights of publicity or privacy. only entries with a declaration of authorship are accepted ! (when submitting your design you will be asked to tick a box of declaration)

— 07 – announcement of the results results will be announced on march, 2011 the jury’s selection is final and is not debatable.

— 08 – intellectual property rights any moral and paternity right regarding the project sent in for submission is the designer’s property. however, by participating in the competition, all participants authorise designboom and PORSCHE to publish and exhibit all the designs (including project data submitted) – waiving compensation – at exhibitions and events and/or to use them in any publications, PORSCHE communications that designboom or PORSCHE may deem suitable and/or necessary. in any cases, each time the creation is used, they must refer to the competition they originate from. designboom and PORSCHE will credit the designer’s name to properly attribute authorship of works to promote the author adequately. PORSCHE will have the right to apply minor change amendments without damaging the integrity of the artwork – e.g. add the PORSCHE logo and text, reframing, translation, changing colors, cutting the background or parts of it, etc…) in case designboom and / or PORSCHE want to bring major changes to the submitted artwork for publication, designboom and / or the PORSCHE agency will contact the designer and inform him about the use to obtain the designer’s consent. and by submitting a design in the competition, the participant agrees to provide PORSCHE with the right of first refusal to the exclusive use of the design. this option is valid for 6 months after the competition will end. in the event that PORSCHE exercises the option to use the rights for commercial purposes PORSCHE undertakes to pay a royalty of annual sales to the designer.
