taiwanese designer yen-hao, chu has created a stylish rattan dresser called ‘nichi’ for furnishing brand ziihome. the design forms a convenient, semi-open grooming surface, along with a set of display shelves, a storage drawer, and a mirror.

unlike other drawers and cabinets that close completely, the semi-open ‘nichi’ dresser by yen-hao, chu is dustproof, and displays cosmetics and jewelry in a delicate manner. the piece is completed with a mirror placed only 30cm away from the table, close to the user’s face, facilitating the grooming procedure. the mirror can smoothly slide without affecting the opening and closing of the glass cabinet door, placed right behind it, while it can also be flipped to avoid nighttime reflections.

two layers of storage space are included in the ‘nichi’ dresser. the upper layer is used to place cosmetics that are used frequently, such as everyday skincare products, so that they can be accessed easily. the lower layer is designed with a 5mm thick movable glass door, to keep less often used cosmetics, reducing dust accumulation, and tucking them away neatly. in addition, three wooden hooks are carefully designed at the bottom and back of the table, to hang curling tongs and heated rollers, hair dryers, bags, etc.

the dresser is constructed with natural rattan weaving imported from indonesia, and is completed with solid wood. the rattan net overlaps with a striped glass sliding door, which produces shadows and accentuates the hazy aesthetic. the small delicate holes that are created on the rattan knitted surface can also be used for hanging small ornaments or jewelry.
