raw edges and wooden furniture manufacturer conde house have collaborated in crust, a new furniture collection for japan creative presented during milan design week this year. integrating elements that draw from rich wood heritage, the pieces celebrate the idea of two different parts joining together in one single unit.

while developing the crust collection, raw edges visited the factory of conde house, witnessing the making of beautiful furniture from the hokkaido forests, produced with the least possible wastage, and with the mastery of the handcraft and the latest in machine processing applied. the resulting pieces combine gentle forms with a contrasting wooden finish, where two parts, different in materiality, are joint together. this is a quiet release of fresh blood into the conde house range, but the pieces are sure to feel quite familiar.

about japan creative

japan has a long-cherished tradition of monozukuri — the making of things. underlying the excellence of japan’s craftsmanship are the foundation of traditional industry, leading-edge technology, the exquisite skills of the japanese, and their enterprising spirit that is not only open to new ideas but assimilates them and advances them.

japan creative project is firmly grounded in japanese aesthetics and japanese technologies with traditional roots, reinterpreting them for today’s context. by making japanese creativity accessible to a wider world, we aim to enrich the daily lives of those who come into contact with its products, and provide a boost to the industries that embody it.
