based in seoul, lee yunjae is a product designer passionate about clean, functional design. his latest creation is the recto lamp, a lighting object that is born from the word recto, taking into consideration its meaning both in french and spanish. featuring clean lines that end in perfect curves, the recto lamp also has a wireless charging mat and a flat surface so you can pin your ideas.

recto in spanish means straight, giving form to the recto lamp by lee yunjae, an upright stand lamp that creates a sense of stability to the space it occupies. with a body composed of a vertical plane that meets a horizontal one, the first becomes a small partition for sticking notes while the second becomes a small tray for the items you want to have close to your hand. finally, the curve created by the simple edge and the plane provides a convenient handle to carry the lamp around.

on the other hand, recto in french talks about the right-hand page of an open book, or the front of a loose document, meaning that it’s the side of the page that will be read first. ‘stand lamps, together with books, create a lyrical atmosphere in the contemplative space,’ comments lee yunjae on his behance page. ‘the plate on the stand becomes another page that illuminates the text on the paper with the perfect light.’
