rick owens premiers cooling fashion during paris’ heatwave
As temperatures soared across Paris Men’s Fashion Week, Rick Owens responded with clothing designed to cool the body. During his Spring/Summer 2027 runway presentation at the Palais de Tokyo, the designer debuted a surprise reunion with adidas, unveiling inflatable performance garments fitted with integrated cooling technology.
The collaboration marks Rick Owens and adidas’ first partnership in nearly a decade, following their influential footwear projects between 2013 and 2017. While the original collaboration helped redefine luxury sneakers, this latest chapter shifts their focus from experimental footwear to climate-adaptive apparel, reimagining technical innovation through Owens’ architectural silhouettes in monochrome palettes of black, white, leather, latex, and technical fabrics.

adidas’ performance technology inflates sculptural silhouettes
The collection introduces oversized jackets and ballooning shorts that inflate into exaggerated forms while concealed fans circulate air around the wearer. Developed using adidas’ Climacool technology, the garments transform functional cooling into part of the silhouette itself. Owens also incorporated an ‘ice vest’ — adapted from performance gear originally engineered for footballers and Formula 1 athletes competing in extreme heat — bringing elite sports technology onto the fashion runway.
Rather than revisiting the sneakers that defined the Rick Owens x adidas partnership between 2013 and 2017, the new collaboration expands into ready-to-wear. Owens reinterprets adidas’ technical expertise through his signature architectural language, presenting monochromatic looks in black, white, leather, latex, and technical fabrics that blur the line between protective equipment and avant-garde fashion.

wearable air-conditioning becomes runway spectacle
Presented against the backdrop of one of Paris’ hottest fashion weeks on record, the inflatable garments echoed the show’s broader conversation around fashion and climate adaptation. As sculptural outerwear expanded around the body, Owens proposed wearable cooling not as a hidden utility, but as a visible design feature — transforming environmental necessity into theatrical performance.
