'rise' chair by zaha hadid architects for nagami is 3D printed from biodegradable material

this chair designed by zaha hadid architects (ZHA) has been 3D printed using a non-toxic, biodegradable material from renewable sources. the seat — named ‘rise’ — has been made by nagami, a company that specializes in 3D printing and robotic manufacturing. these chairs combine pristine design informed by structural optimization processes typically found in nature with innovative materials and the most advanced fabrication methods.

the project is the result of ongoing research that ZHA is conducting within the domains of 3D printing and material experimentation. the pattern and the color gradient of ‘rise’ seeks to redefine the traditional spatial relationship between furniture and its setting. ‘there are some elegant intricacies, and it’s all nature in many ways, because you have such variation processes in natural morphogenesis,’ explains patrik schumacher, principal of ZHA.
