showing alongside a collection of works commissioned by carpenters workshop gallery for design miami/basel is ‘exercise series’ by viennese designer robert stadler. available as a side table, coffee table and stool, the objects – made from african marble – are modeled after the characteristics of complex genetic codes, their sculptural and geometric forms both abstract and unique. guided by the functional requirements of each piece, the designs feature a simplified origami-like aesthetic which merges contrasting notions of balance and stability. rotated panels of stripped olimpo striato marble highlight the angular lines of each object, accentuating both the solid surfaces and negative voids.
