orgatec 2016: ronan and erwan bouroullec have realized a conceptual office for VITRA, envisioning a home-like atmosphere for the workplace with an innovative table system named ‘cyl’. compensating for the often technical character of business environments, the bouroullec brothers have conceptualized an antithesis to cold, mundane interiors and instead form an adaptable and practical oasis of peace and tranquility.

ronan and erwan bouroullec’s ‘cyl’ system for VITRA includes a range of variously sized tables made from solid wood. the use of this material emphasizes the product’s clean lines with its smooth planes, structural frame and cylindrical elements. furthermore, wood conveys a handcrafted, natural aesthetic that adds an emotional and personal touch to the overall aesthetic of the workplace. each of the tables can be linked together, or optionally equipped with screens, forming a flexible and interchangeable setting to suit a variety of needs.

presented at orgatec 2016, the ‘cyl’ series also includes a sofa, which is distinguished by its side and back panels available in various heights. as an intentionally analogue system, the ‘cyl’ set features integrated power solutions that make it suited for workspaces and meeting environments, where a desire for reductive aesthetics is promoted and an aesthetic flexibility is ensured.

‘cyl was originally conceived for the home as a table program, but soon we sensed the potential to turn it into a system with a larger range of typologies,’ ronan bouroullec explained. ‘it was an important step to realize that its domestic qualities are interesting in the office landscape. I think the simplicity of ‘cyl’ responds to a demand for clarity and fosters a welcoming atmosphere in the office world.’
