chairs are laser cut out of 6mm aluminum, leaving behind cut-outs that are then sold along with the chair

israeli designer ronen kadushin has completed a collection of aluminum chairs as a part of his ‘open design’ opportunity where individuals can download, modify and produce the designs from his website. the goal is to ‘shift industrial design to become relevant in a ‘globally networked information society’ in the same way other creative fields such as music, communication design and animation photography have.

the design of each chair is a reference to common, everyday influences including emotion, iconic design, cityscapes and  street art. the process and design method of the chairs encourage experimentation and a more free approach to creation. this concept is evident in the natural state in which the material is left.

the chairs which are individually bent and assembled by hand are laser cut from a 6mm thick sheet of aluminum. the essential ‘twist hinge’ detail was designed by kadushin making it possible to precisely plan the position of the bend and retain the structural integrity of the chair.
