as an experimentation with the science of color, eindhoven-based firm rENs are dying a clothing collection all different shades of red. ‘rood’, meaning red in dutch, features garments which are hand-dyed in differently composed mixtures. depending on the type of fabric, the amount of pigment, water and other natural additives, the resulting red ranges from mahogany to bordeaux, from orange red to blood red, from cheery red to iron oxide, all varying in intensity and saturation. as a result, each piece is unique. when an item of clothing is purchased, it comes with a code which can be tracked and traced online. the story of each article can be read at www.roodbyrens.nl.

‘working as an alchemist with the magic of dyeing; balancing, dipping the clothes in a tub of liquid dye, the tint, the water, the salt, the pigment.‘
