portuguese, milan-based designer rui pereira has developed the ‘tanque’ collection in reference to milanese street vendors. wanting to pay homage to their ability to create functional objects from minimal resources, the containers can be used as vases or even as aquariums. the products  have been crafted in portugal by irmãos and manuel rêga using red clay mixed with ‘pedras salgadas’ granite and cryptomeria wood from the azores.

‘every week there is a market on my studio’s street, and it is amazing to see how vendors create and develop their own stands in order to exhibit fruits, flowers, fish and meat.’ says designer, rui pereira.

the project was part of the ‘terracotta everyday’ exhibition led by federazione italiana del design, FID with a collective of 10 young italian designers, presented during milan design week 2014 at superstudio.
