rydon pixio – a solar powered bike light that lasts forever

the solar powered ‘rydon pixio’ uses the sunlight in the summer to charge its batteries for the winter, so that it lasts all year long. created by dutch industrial designers at rydon, the key idea is a permanently mounted light – that always works. the main feature of this design is the integrated solar panel, which converts every beam of sunlight into energy, storing it in the batteries so they will never have to be replaced. able to hold seventy five hours worth of light, ‘rydon pixio’ is sufficient for approximately two years and is fully charged again after only five days of exposure. riding the bike during the summer gives enough energy to last through the winter. the innovative accessory doesn’t have to be kept in the sun all the time either, it can be parked anywhere, even in a garage with no sunlight. the installation is very easy with a specially designed application tool and theft-proof locking mechanism. the bike can be efficiently re-mounted onto another bike, by unlocking it with the application tool. cheap disposable bicycle lights use valuable natural resources, and are only used for a limited time. changing the batteries often costs more than buying a new bicycle light. the ‘rydon pixio’ is a long lasting alternative, with naturally rechargeable batteries that never need replacing.
