ryosuke fukusada embeds spherical solar cells in transparent penguin object whose led eyes shine green when receiving natural or artificial light. designed for sphelar power corporation, the penguin will be launched during milan design week at tenoha milano and daikanyama.
the LED eyes of the penguin are directly connected to the sphelar cells and sealed
in response to global warming’s critical effect on penguins, the designer created the object as a wish that clean solar energy using sphelar will become widespread, ensuring a more hopeful future for endangered penguins. Once launched, the product will be available for purchase while part of the profits will be donated to protection initiatives of natural environment and birds through birdlife international tokyo.
micro spherical solar cells can be embedded into everyday products
when the spherical solar cells are exposed to sunlight and indoor light they generate electricity and the LEDs shine
the spherical solar cells sealed in the bottom part of the penguin
thanks to the simple structure, the deterioration of each part is minimum, so it will work for a very long time
views of the penguin
sphelar has a spherical light absorption surface that can absorb light from all directions
the penguin can be used as a measure of the light intensity by placing it in places where light is necessary, such as near a plant
it can also be placed in an aquarium to measure light intensity
it will continue to shine by receiving sunlight and indoor light
the penguin has a width of 58 mm, depth of 47 mm and height of 85 mm
