SOLIDNATURE AND SABINE MARCELIS LAUNCH LIMITED-EDITION CANDLEHOLDERS

What began as an ephemeral spatial installation for Amsterdam Fashion Week 2026 has evolved into a series of collectible design objects. Following the enthusiastic response to their collaborative table setting during the event’s opening dinner, natural stone brand SolidNature and Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis have released a limited edition of their sculptural candleholders. Originally arranged across a minimal white table to form a continuous visual gradient, the individual pieces are now available in an exclusive release of 400 carved stone objects. The design draws a direct link between fashion styling and object composition, allowing users to arrange single pieces into custom modular setups that mimic the fluid movement and color of a flame.

A SHARED EXPLORATION OF COLOR AND NATURAL STONE

The collaboration builds on a shared design language established between SolidNature and Sabine Marcelis, known for their material-focused explorations. Their ongoing partnership previously produced the acclaimed

Beyond the Surface installation during Milan Design Week 2023, which featured a seven-meter-long dining table crafted from six distinct travertines bound together by Marcelis’ signature color-treated glass. Where their Milan installation used natural stone as a monumental architectural foundation, this limited-edition collection brings the material above the tabletop to directly shape the ambient atmosphere of a space. Marcelis’ practice frequently centers on light, geometry, and material transformation, while SolidNature contributes as a highly esteemed stone supplier with technical mastery in sourcing, cutting, and carving rare natural stones.

FROM ONE-NIGHT DINNER TO COLLECTIBLE ART

While the original runway installation featured a palette of six different natural stones and three sizes, SolidNature and Sabine Marcelis refined the concept for the commercial release into two distinct stone types: Honey Onyx and Sunset Dune Travertine. Honey Onyx features a natural translucency that allows ambient light to pass through its soft orange surface, illuminating internal mineral layers. In contrast, Sunset Dune Travertine offers an earthy red hue marked by porous textures formed through geological processes over thousands of years.

‘Natural stone carries a history that no designer can replicate. What I love about this collaboration is how Sabine brings that history into a contemporary context, revealing qualities that might otherwise be overlooked. Seeing the response to the installation made us want to share that experience with a wider audience, so we created objects that people can live with and make their own. Like a fashion collection, the design of the candleholders is defined by carefully selected textures, patterns, colours and shapes. Each piece is a powerful statement in its own right, but when combined, they take on a completely different function or appearance,‘ David Mahyari, owner of SolidNature, tells designboom.

Carved from solid blocks, each piece retains a distinctive curved silhouette designed to accommodate three standard dinner candles. Because the direction of the cut reveals varying veining patterns, shifting from sharp linear runs to soft, cloud-like formations, every candleholder remains entirely unique.

Offered in two lengths (500 and 650 mm) with a uniform width of 100 mm and height of 150 mm, the four distinct variations are limited to 100 pieces each. The collection is available exclusively through SolidNature webshop.
