senik fire extinguisher by sailee adhao is quick+easy for emergencies
born out of a desire to make fire safety more accessible in the urban settlements of india, product and industrial designer sailee adhao introduces the senik fire extinguisher — which subtly combines the concepts of water mist fire suppression with rapidly-decomposing gas generating systems.
once unmounted, the senik fire extinguisher takes an angled form that helps direct water to a source of fire
with the senik fire extinguisher, sailee adhao addresses usability in two important ways: reducing the mental load of the ‘point spray at base of fire’ action by creating an angled form, and simplifying the instructions to make them clear for untrained or uneducated users. as a result, she has developed a one-step instruction where the individual applies a brute force to trigger a yellow button which frees the product to be unmounted ; this is a much more effective and simple action during situations of panic, danger and emergency.
the brightly-colored trigger is activated when hit with force
the nozzle was 3D printed to prototype and test engineering factors until a good quality mist was produced; the body takes on the shape of a vaccum machine, made out of polystyrene, while the yellow trigger is fabricated with wood and metal. the final mock-up was tested by target users on small, controlled fires. many more interviews and testing was conducted to get feedback on the ergonomics and simplicity of instructions proposed for this model.
the device is then easily slid off its wall mount for use
the angled body reduces mental load by automatically pointing at source when directed towards direction of fire
the most optimal fire suppression technology was identified, and design considerations were deduced
the nozzle evolves after a careful adjustment of different factors
usability was given prime importance and had to adhere to functionality
the mechanism is fitted within a hard ABS body, and parts can be easily refitted
the chemicals that were identified after academic research have been prepared and tested for its properties
the senik fire extinguisher can be easily wall-mounted at strategic locations
