salone del mobile 2022 announces sustainability theme to 'design with nature'

SALONE DEL MOBILE IS BACK!

salone del mobile is back, and the 2022 edition will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a full schedule of events and exhibitions. to be held on june 7th — 12th, the furniture fair returns to its home in milan — fiera milano rho — and will include design with nature, an ambitious installation by architect mario cucinella.

while remaining ever mindful of its long history, the salone now looks ahead, aiming to embed both sustainability and environmental awareness into furniture production. the show will use reusable or upcycled, low environmental impact, and FSC- or PEFC-certified materials for communal spaces and is encouraging exhibitors to do the same.

focusing on environmental and social wellbeing

the 60th edition of salone del mobile (see more here) will be informed by environmental and social wellbeing. created by architect mario cucinella (see more), the ‘design with nature’ installation will cover 1,400 square meters, illustrating a ‘virtuous ecosystem’ representing the ideal future of home living, the urgent need for ecological transition, and the city as a mine. keeping with its own theme, it will be dismantled, reused, and recycled following the salone.

‘the salone firmly believes in the need for a real and immediate ecological transformation, which is why it has decided to be an accelerator of ethical and virtuous behavior, investing in a large project curated by the architect mario cucinella,’ said maria porro, president of salone del mobile. ‘companies and creatives will be able to physically touch alternative materials that are already a reality and let themselves be inspired by a vision of urban areas as potential ‘mines’ of raw materials and reflect on the function of our homes as cells that make up a more complex organism: the city. the sustainability of the event is the competitive lever on which we want to focus with honesty, commitment, and transparency.’

2,000 exhibitors in milan this june

with more than 2,000 exhibitors — including SaloneSatellite’s 600 designers under 35 — the 2022 edition of salone del mobile will showcase the progress made by creatives, designers, brands on this subject. on entering the fair, visitors will walk into the stands, which will act as both architectural and communication elements, creating an immersive experience that has always distinguished salone del mobile.

the 23rd edition of SaloneSatellite will also be taking place, seeing 600 young designers under the designing for our future selves theme. the designers have been invited to reflect on inclusive design, fostering autonomy, comfort, movement, usability, interaction and safety.

this year also marks the return of S.Project, the exhibition devoted to design products and large-scale project solutions. the biennial exhibitions eurocucina, and its collateral event FTK (technology for the kitchen) and the international bathroom exhibition will also take place.
