developed for italian brand EMU, the ‘grace collection’ by london-based designer samuel wilkinson crosses boundaries between indoor and outdoor furniture. the die-cast aluminum range consists of a stacking chair and armchair, a stool, and a folding café table. constructed using a set of durable and weather-resistant components, the pieces can easily be disassembled and recycled and are suited for a range of different environments. the lightweight structures, which reference early 20th century wooden pieces have a deceptively heavy appearance partly due to the deep hollowed seat pad, but are actually just 3mm thick.

the full collection will be officially launched at the salone internazionale del mobile in milan in april, after previewing at cologne imm, 2014. it will be available in a range of matte and gloss paint finishes.

‘we wanted to design a collection that would have a strong character but at an affordable price… we have reduced the amount of welding to a minimum. this allows flexibility for the manufacturer and helps to reduce cost as smaller components can be individually finished then assembled before shipping.’ says samuel wilkinson.
