SCHOTT glass solution mirrors stainless steel for kitchen applications

as living and cooking spaces integrate in our homes, there is a rising trend of using more glass in interior design than ever before. hence, SCHOTT developed METALLOOK, a pure glass solution that combines the sleek, stylish appearance of stainless steel with the advantages of the material glass. this solution lightens up your kitchen and especially home appliances, as shown at IFA 2019 with leading home appliance manufacturer HAIER.

glimmering with its metallic aesthetic, SCHOTT METALLOOK only reveals its true material at closer look. in fact, no metal components are used in the innovation at all. it has been developed as a design option that looks incredibly like stainless steel yet combines the versatility, heat-proof and chemical resistance of glass. also the surface is so easy to clean that even fingerprints are less visible, for example, and as a safety glass it withstands mechanical impacts.

the innovation was developed with the ability to allow variations in color and structure to suit different requirements and applications. very fine logos and symbols as well as transparent areas can be added to the shimmering glass surface with strong metallic effect. SCHOTT METALLOOK supports the integration of displays and operating elements including graphics to create the unique look. with glass thickness from 3.2 to 8 mm, it ensures a wide range of use and customized style, and can be fitted perfectly across home, from kitchen and bathroom applications to appliances.

at both the AWE fair in shanghai, china and IFA 2019 in berlin, germany, HAIER highlighted the aesthetic and technical benefits of METALLOOK on their new kitchen appliances. an entire product line was equipped with customized METALLOOK glass panels, from baking and steam ovens to an extractor hood, coffee machine and dishwasher. the product line also includes an induction hob with SCHOTT CERAN® glass ceramics with matching design, as SCHOTT was able to realize a similar metallic look for the two different materials – flat glass and glass ceramics. this gives the entire appliance line a consistent look and feel which matches ideally the trend of the so-called family design in the kitchen.
