scribit + ariana grande's tattoo artist celebrate women’s empowerment in wall tattoo

back in 2018, carlo ratti associati unveiled scribit — an intelligent writing robot that can draw and erase images on any vertical surface, from whiteboards to glass or plaster. since then, scribit has joined forces with artist olafur eliasson in an attempt to create the ‘world’s largest mosaic’. continuing with its collaborations with world renowned artists, the write&erase robot is now teaming up with ariana grande’s tattoo artist, mira mariah, to create a wall tattoo that celebrates women’s empowerment.

scribit has shared with designboom an exclusive behind-the-scenes video interview with mira mariah which you can watch above.

new york-based mira mariah got worldwide recognition after she tattooed ariana grande’s hand with a worker bee in remembrance of the manchester area bombing victims. now, scribit has teamed-up with her to create me and you and we and her — a tattoo for your wall dedicated to women’s empowerment that symbolizes mira’s work on ‘the poetry of woman life or girl culture’ as she defines it. the wall tattoo, which will be drawn by scribit in thousands of homes around the world, is part of a collector’s series called scribit originals, which debuted last month.

‘I want my art to be accessible to people around the world, but as a tattoo artist, the way I am doing art now is only accessible to someone I can be in the room with. what is very special to me about scribit is its community and technology, where you can download pieces of artwork and re-share them,’ says mira mariah, who, herself is a disabled person and an advocate for inclusion and diversity. ‘my favorite thing about technology is its ability to increase accessibility and inclusivity. scribit can make artwork accessible to people who would otherwise never see it. that is allowing us to share culture in a way that we have never done before.’

in her me and you and we and her wall tattoo, mira mariah reinterprets traditional figures from the renaissance and hellenistic art, celebrating the diversity of women of all shapes and sizes. ‘as a disabled woman, as an amputee, technology and robotics are going to be part of my life forever. I am a robot, right? so I have to be interested in technology as a woman a piece of whose body is a robot!’, she adds.
