‘ru’ chair by american-born and stockholm-based industrial designer shane schneck for danish company hay was presented at maison et objet 2010 and stockholm furniture fair 2010. gathered from references of chairs in schools, lunch rooms and auditoriums, ‘ru’ is a hybrid of our collective memory and functionality. it is a wooden chair that gains its strength by cross laminating layers in the seat. this method allows for a cantilevered surface and a more robust structure. unlike conventional chairs, it is designed without the front legs allowing it be stacked on tables for easy cleaning.

  • A beautiful piece of furniture. Simple lines. Looks strong and stable. Reminiscent of old school chairs but done in a contemporary manner.
Usually chairs have to be turned upside down to be put on a table so that the floor can be cleaned. This method helps out with this function dramatically.

  • Good!

  • I love it!

    alasdair says:
  • I guess they haven’t seen the chairs with arms that rest on the table, allowing them to be cleaned under after closing. These resemble bleacher seats, and i’m not sure if i’d know the function by just looking at it.

    ralph says:
  • Brilliant!

    kaloy says:
  • I kind’a wish it had arm rests, but they look really good and trendy.
