shawn weiland: affectual chair

san francisco – based designer shawn weiland has created ‘the affectual chair’, an object generated to propagate interaction between both how materials come together, and how the body relates to them. the single metal structure runs through and intersects with the seat – allowing the shape to begin to form on its own.

by using a modular system in which three 1/20 steel tubes are embedded into the veneer, the design accommodates legs of different sizes and angles, giving the user and the manufacturer the ability to simply create either a lounge chair or dining chair.
