the berlin-based designer shigeki yamamoto launches ‘play cabinet’ — a new piece from his series of works reminiscent of a construction kit for children. several years ago, working on a table lamp, the designer came up with a concept, which now, as he says, lets him work ‘more freely’.

the idea is that when yamamoto designs an object, he uses plug and screw connections, so, when assembling the details, he can attach each one almost everywhere. this technique was also applied to ‘play sideboard‘ — his last project which was launched in 2016.

‘with every project, I find new opportunities and ways to apply my concept’, the designer explains. ‘I always knew that I wanted to use this technique to create even more complex structures. ‘play cabinet’ represents the current peak of my journey, that is still far from the finish’.
