shigeki yamamoto references bulding blocks in play sideboard

japan-born and germany-based shigeki yamamoto is a designer who has dedicated his career to wood-making with a mix of ‘high humor design’—aiming to bring a sense of fun into daily life while maintaining his love for quality. his works result in a rich, somehow in a spiritual manner, as they face today’s industrialized mass production. ‘play sideboard’ exemplifies this by allowing the user to bring back childhood memories with building blocks and to apply them to new furniture and object construction.

‘play sideboard’ by shigeki yamamoto is a piece of furniture made of many different pieces of oak coated with glass oil, that once assembled, resemble our old building block toys. the design wants the user to rediscover their creativity, allowing them to change the piece however they want, awakening their imagination and creativity. the ‘play sideboard’ comes in a limited series of three and measures 250x75x85 centimeters.
