german-iranian designer siba sahabi first presented her paper porcelain at designboom’s ‘asia now’ exhibition at dwell on design in los angeles. her new series, ‘kerameikos’ elaborates further on the theme that aims to show how one culture can influence another, leading to renewal and cultural richness.

adopting its name from an area in athens that was known for centuries as the potters’ quarter, the collection reflects an aesthetic that was originally established by ancient greek ceramicists. the paper spun pieces abstractly replicate foreign objects that filtered into greece through trade to influence its developing aesthetic.

‘kerameikos’ is currently on show at two seperate galleries in amsterdam and and arnhem: galerie plaatsmaken until march 13, 2011 and galerie ra until march 23, 2011.
