up-and-coming norwegian designer sigve knutson made a big impact during milan design week 2017 with ‘drawn to production’, a project made in collaboration with beirut’s carwan gallery. in it, the design academy eindhoven recent graduate explores how a designer might work if the qualities of drawing were applied to the various phases of a production process. the presented works showcase a special interest in making obvious the intuitive and the first approach, rather than cleaning all these attempts as the process advances.

for sigve knutson, drawing expresses the personal qualities and unique aesthetics of a designer: it allows for a direct and natural expression of the imagination, poetry, thoughts, and inspirations. by contrast, designing products usually means that your designs have to be altered, smoothed and filtered. to deal with this gradual decline of the original intuitions, knutson developed this project where he explores a multitude of ways to apply drawing to the production of objects. for example, by connecting drawing to crafts, a new range of methods and ways of making objects emerges.
