in the not so far away future, most of the world’s population will be living in cities, which will bring about many challenges economically, environmentally and socially.

smart is about developing intelligent solutions for the challenges of our global cities such as: what is the best use for empty buildings? how can I share my car or cargo bike with others? how can we go about transforming more of our urban spaces into blooming city gardens?

that is why the automotive company has initiated the smart urban pioneers idea contest — in search of innovations for the city and its inhabitants that enrich the sense of community, and simply more joy to urban life. during the call for submissions, the smart urban pioneers contest called upon bright minds, creative specialists and intrepid enthusiasts to share their ideas for a better urban future. through smart magazine, smart urban pioneers is set to accompany the very best proposals, and help implement those concepts, bringing them to reality for an even more enhanced city life.

the jury has selected the top 10 submissions of the 2016 smart urban pioneer contest, and now it is up to you to vote to determine the best three finalists! these chosen projects will be promoted through crowdfunding campaigns on indiegogo. on top of the communicative boost through smart magazine and other international channels, smart will financially support these winners with a total prize award of €50 000 euro, to help bring their projects to fruition.
