the art/architecture guys over at snarkitecture present: the ‘slip chair’, a seemingly unusable product designed for portugal-based company, UVA. the ‘slip chair’s’ sunken appearance doesn’t look like a good place to sit. however, its precisely-cut, tapered stone — atop its questionably-cut wooden frame — reminds users that the chair is actually revolving on two axes, instead of one; the opposing elements counterbalance each other; any illusion of uneasiness here is just another snarky joke. it’s completely stable. you won’t slip off. you can definitely sit on it just fine.

design brand, UVA, is all about bringing emerging designers’ visions to life through portuguese craftsmanship. the slip chair’s wooden structure and its stone had to be crafted perfectly. two-axes means an exponentially more complicated creation, so the chair was developed by master chair-makers, in pacos de ferreira, north portugal, where tradition and skill has been evolving for generations. each unit is handmade, numbered and certified — and given a treatment of white-ash or marble black. would you sit on snarkitecture’s chair, or would the placebo effect of slipping-off keep you away?
