sodastream play by yves behar will be launched in 6 colors (black, red, white, yellow, blue and silver)

billed as ‘the world’s first customizable kitchen appliance’ the ‘sodastream play’ by fuseproject/yves béhar will be available in six colors that can be interchanged to fit the preferred design choice or the kitchen interior of the consumer. the appliance has been launched at designjunction as part of this year’s london design festival festival along side the new sodastream bottle, also developed by fuseproject. the vessel has been conceived to accompany the ‘sodastream play’ and ‘sodastream source‘ and is influenced by the single water drop motif–it is available in three colours for the base and cup: black, chrome and white. this graphic also features in the surface pattern of the two machines. each composed of a square column and extruded plastic base, they offer clean geometries and lines, creating a sense of fluidity.

‘sodastream has always been about ‘just in time’ carbonated water and soda making. I wanted the new affordable design to reflect this contemporary idea of making things yourself. play is minimal by design, and ultra simple to use, while the six bright colours are interchangeable and create personalization for the consumer. play is a fun expression of all the different ways water and soda can be carbonated.’yves behar, fuseproject

powered by a CO2 canister, the refined mechanics of the machine allow the high-gloss slider column to automatically return to the original position after being pressed, simplifying the process of carbonation. the matte texture and contrasting color of the column and extruding base add playfulness to the machine. the sodastream carbonating bottle easily locks into a translucent polycarbonate bottle-rest with a single-push motion.
