mrs. porntiva nakasai, the thai minister of commerce, stated that ‘the thai furniture industry has shown signs of healthy growth since the later part of last year, generating a total export value of over 88.62 million U.S. dollars only during january this year, a promising 1.69% growth over last year. the growth has been particularly more active in asian markets such as japan, indonesia, malaysia and india; as well as, in emerging markets with high purchasing power such as china, india, russia and the united arab emirates. for 2011, we have set an export target of 1,290 million U.S. dollars, or a 10% growth over that of 2010, and we are confident in achieving it. the TIFF thailand international furniture fair 2011 plays undoubtedly a strategic role in helping thailand meeting its export goal. the event attracts potential buyers and business partners from around the world — such as japan, the US, the european union, india, china, the middle east, africa, canada and australia — to engage in business negotiations with thai furniture entrepreneurs and producers.’
