& sparkles bespoke jewelry brand launches globally
‘reverse rings’

the global launch of & sparkles will bring forth a new edge to the jewellery industry which has remained mostly unchanged overtime. born out of the desire to revive their family’s connection with the european diamond and luxury accessories market, third-generation jewellers and cousins daniel and ronald schipper decided to work together to develop a service-alternative that veers away from the conservativeness of the current luxury trade, by forging the relatively unprecedented territory of a relationship between designer and customer.

what makes the & sparkles’ exclusive jewellery so unique is that it employs an international roster of skilled creatives that work across all disciplines of art and design — from architecture, to goldsmithing, product and textile design — some who have never even drafted an idea for a piece of jewellery before, and whose foray into this luxury market is marked by this occasion. thus, the resulting debut collection offers more than 150 objects which express a great aesthetic spectrum that ranges from modern classics, to more decorative pieces that reaches a wider demographic. the possibility for clients to create their own unique piece of jewelry can be done through a wide selection of different metal types, as well as various gemstones, with the number of available customization options to suit the individual totaling a potential 5500 individual combinations.

works by caren pardovitch, christoph blatter, henk stallinga, lidy peters, melody deldjou fard, sayaka yamamoto, suzon ingber, vasily baglaenko and zoe stork; are included in the initial selection of & sparkles’ jewellery which will be updated continuously as the company recruits new artists and designers to join their creative team.

henk stallinga, who has established his practice on product and spatial design agreed to collaborate with & sparkles, as he felt it was a rare opportunity for him to test out the waters of another discipline. ‘the biggest hurdle for me was not being familiar with the history and tradition of jewellery. I came at this very fresh, which can offer a sort of freedom, but at the same time it is always good to be well versed in what has come before. as with most of my work it all starts with a sketch,’ he stated. whereas for others such as zoe stork, whose expertise is in this field, the exercise was a bit more seamless, ‘I am used to designing for a client, so the wearability is the starting point for my designs. for my & sparkles collection, my process ran smoothly because I designed with myself in mind as the potential customer.’ regardless of their trained background, the & sparkles designers each site their influences as being derived from the world around them — anthropology, architecture, art, fashion, museums, nature, politics, and have embraced the company’s philosophy with open arms.

the aim of the schippers’ conceptual approach is to provide an opportunity for the designers to relate to their client on a more personal level, so & sparkles’ decision to collaborate with such a range of individuals has proven to be a key opportunity in which to connect with a more diverse range of consumers. the ultimate ambition for the schippers is to ensure that buyers become actively involved in the narrative and style development of their purchase. all of the final bespoke pieces are crafted in gold or platinum, adorned with conflict-free precious gems – a testament to & sparkles’ commitment to addressing the political, as well as social concerns which often surround the lucrative business. each of the participating designers will develop a rapport with & sparkles, rooted on a unique licensing agreement that offers them unlimited opportunities to engage with materials which may normally be out of their reach. this will afford them complete experimental freedom to express and realize their concepts, ensuring that & sparkles’ wearable luxury products are visually invigorating, and maintain a certain level of unpredictability, so that they are able to continuously present a catalog of original and well-crafted custom jewellery pieces to the world.
