if you’re in search of the ultimate ‘self defense umbrella’ then look no further than the following two designs…

first up is the ‘umbuster’ designed by sruli recht – an umbrella with an ergonomically positioned knuckle duster handle configuration’. carrying the piece around would surely make an potential attacker think twice before starting any trouble, but the design doesn’t come cheap, 330 USD to be exact! the ‘umbuster’ will be available from october this year over at birkiland. the umbrella has been classified a class 5 weapon in the US, and is considered similarly so in many countries. to have and to hold this accessory requires a weapons license and, or gun license. more

next up is ‘the unbreakable umbrella’ – from the name you might be fooled into thinking that the selling point would be that it can survive strong winds etc. but no, it’s actually designed with the intention of being used for self defense. the piece is described by ‘real-self-defense’ as having ‘no unusual parts, no more metal than an average umbrella, it does not arouse suspicion, can be carried legally everywhere where any weapons are prohibited, unlike a walking stick it does not cause strange looks if carried by an able-bodied person, and it does protect from rain. anyone who can use a stick for defense can use this umbrella.’ from now on you might want to think twice about upsetting someone who has an umbrella!

  • At first I like the idea to have “added value”, I also like to ask : Are you glorifying a weapon? Now that I am worried that people might just beat me up using my umbrella. Anyhow I still think that “design” should” be added to make it friendly, like using nicer prints.

  • Are you glorifying a weapon? I know it´s self defense, but someone can argue as well about guns, the only difference is the context.

    How sad, right?
