Marek Kounovský designs table around the idea of ‘just enough’

Designed by Marek Kounovský of MK Designers for Prague-based furniture company Frayer, Handle Table is a bamboo coffee table with concealed storage integrated into its geometry. The design explores the idea of ‘just enough’ by balancing function, material, and form without adding unnecessary details.

oil-based stain highlights bamboo’s natural texture and form

For the table, designer Marek Kounovský of MK Designers draws on the Japanese principle of hodo-hodo, which emphasizes moderation, restraint, and balance. Its reduced form highlights proportion, material, and construction, while the integrated compartment provides storage for everyday items without disrupting the table’s appearance.

The bamboo surface is treated with an oil-based wood stain developed through experiments with application methods suited to the material. The finish enhances the bamboo’s natural structure and tactile qualities while keeping its texture visible. Handle Table was first presented at the 14th Czech Design Week international design festival in Prague.
